Cake School visited the Welsh National Cake Show on Saturday 9th February which took place in County Hall, Cardiff. This was the inaugural show and as we have people from Wales book on courses, we thought we would invest in a stand. So, it was a first for the show and a first for us.
We are lucky enough to have a brilliant printer on our local trading estate – Tom Chisnell of Xposure and he was given the task of creating a stand-up banner, fliers and business cards. We only had a short time frame and were impressed with both the design and attention to detail; the prices were reasonable as well!
Dee had to quickly create some courses to add to the website for the show and also create the actual pieces – this was done in between cake orders and current courses. The descriptions were compiled and James was given the task of uploading everything on to the website www.cakeschoolthornbury.co.uk.
Then, of course, there was Dee’s entry to consider. Because she has three Golds from Cake International, Dee had to enter the Master Class section of the competition – no pressure! Dee has always wanted to create a piece called ‘Three Men in a Tub’ based on the age-old nursery rhyme. This was the focus. Hours of work has gone into creating this masterpiece and with a score of 98% Dee achieved a Gold as well as ‘Best in Class’. This prestigious accolade is really well deserved. The class was sponsored by EdAble Art and Dee received a cash prize of £150.
The stand itself was really busy and it was lovely to meet so many people from across the UK – it was amazing to see how far people travelled. We also featured on a live posting by Sugar & Crumbs and Nifty Nozzles – which was another first for us. We do tend to be camera shy!! People commented on how lovely the stand looked and asked lots of questions about the courses. We completely loved the experience and can’t wait to do our next show
